City of Cedar Rapids replaces Chapter 29 and mandates Crime Free Lease Agreement/Addendium for all housing tenants

If you own a rental property, big or small, the City of Cedar Rapids requires you use a Crime Free Lease Agreement or Addendum, that you become licenced locally, and you register all rental rooms, houses and apartments.

The department has been very inefficient throughout the years, including the department's ability to provide data on the customers it serves.

Currently, the City of Cedar Rapids has no citizen housing boards or commissions. Communities, like Iowa City, have used citizen boards and commissions to help formulate public policy on housing issued. Despite the City Charter makes recommendations for boards and commissions, but, the police department and housing officials are addressing the ordinance work for our community, rather than elected officials and/or the public.

Flood Recovery is moving forward this week with the Grand Reopening of Theatre Cedar Rapids and Other Local News

Theatre Cedar Rapids will re-open on Friday, February 26Th with the Grand Reopening Gala, which is sold out. There may still be tickets available for The Producers for other show dates. The Producers is the Tony-award winning musical by Mel Brooks. The show which marks TCR’s return to its home in the Iowa Theater Building, which has been closed due to the Flood of 2008.

Rotarian Robin Tucker is looking forward to The Producers on March 3Rd with fellow Rotarians and guests enjoying the Rotary Club of Cedar Rapids fundraiser and social event at TCR. The Metro High School scholarship program will benefit from this Rotary fundraiser.

The new marquee has the ability to play video and it has a wonderful LED format for marketing of events being held at the Iowa Theater Building. Here's a recent story in our local paper on the TCR recovery efforts ...

The challenges in Flood Recovery have been hard on the Cedar Rapids area. While there is some good news with Theatre Cedar Rapids re-opening this week, news that the Library site has been determined and HUD increases on pre-flood value; there are plenty of challenges ahead with flood mitigation, taxation and sustainability for small business and individuals post flood.

• The Special Election in Iowa House District 33 will occur on Tuesday, November 24 for people living in SE, SW and NW precincts in Cedar Rapids. For more information Voters in Precincts 1-11 Cedar Rapids will be selecting a new House Member to represent them in Des Moines. Don't forget to vote on Election Day or through absentee or early voting at the Linn County Auditor's Office.


• In the City of Cedar Rapids, a Runoff Election for the City Council District 3 position and one At-Large position will take place on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Absentee voting and in-person voting at the Linn County Auditor's Office has begun and is encouraged. For more information All Cedar Rapids voters have the opportunity to vote for one candidate and voters in District 3 have two candidates to vote for in this Runoff Election.
