On January 10Th, Mayor Ron Corbett with the consent of the City Council appointed Robin Tucker, a Realtor® with Tommy Tucker Realty Co., and Anne Pham, an Alliant Energy employee, to the eleven member Civil Rights Commission for the City of Cedar Rapids. Tucker and Pham will fill two vacancies on the Commission through June 30, 2013.

The Commission is made up of eleven volunteer members, who are appointed by the Mayor for three-year terms, comprise the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission. We believe strongly in the tradition of Equal Opportunity in employment, housing, education, public accommodations and credit in our community. "Like my father, I look forward to paying my civic rent in service to the Commission for the next 18 months," said Robin Tucker.

January 9, 2009 - We honor the 60th Wedding Anniversary of Tommy & LaVerne Tucker

Every January 9Th, the standing joke between Robin Tucker, now broker/officer of Tommy Tucker Realty Co. with his parents, Tommy and LaVerne Tucker, was a quick happy birthday send off. From 1969-1974, Richard Nixon served as President of the United States.

But, really, January 9Th had much more significance than the birthday of our 37Th President of the United States.

It was January 9, 1949. Tommy and LaVerne Tucker were married in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They had met on a blind date, while both were students at Coe College. Today, January 9, 2009, Tommy and LaVerne Tucker celebrate their 60Th wedding anniversary. They will celebrate the event with a trip to Hawaii this month.

In 1958, Tommy founded Tommy Tucker Realty Co. Tommy Tucker Realty Co. celebrated its 50Th anniversary as a company, last year. Tommy entered the real estate profession in 1955.

LaVerne retired from real estate at the end of 2007.

Tommy Tucker has been recognized by the Cedar Rapids Association of Realtors (CRAAR) and the National Association of Realtors (NAR) as a REALTOR® Emeritus. He is a past president of the CRAAR and the Iowa Association of Realtors. He also served as a national vice president of NAR.

The Iowa Realtor Foundation offers the I.L. "Tommy" Tucker Scholarship. Mr. Tucker, along with other Realtors, help establish the University of Northern Iowa Real Estate Education Program.

Today, we sincerely wish our founder, Tommy Tucker, and his wife, a Happy 60Th Wedding Anniversary. Congratulations Dad & Mom! Robin Tucker

A family tradition of New Year's Resolutions

Today's reflection

LaVerne Tucker, Robin's mother and Tommy's wife, has always been a strong believer in New Year's Resolutions. As she raised her three children, LaVerne would often request New Year's Resolutions from all her guests during the family's New Year's Day dinner that she often hosts.

To break the ice, she would give a piece of paper to all her guests with the following writing on it written straight down the left side of the 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper...

Using the beginning letter, the guest can make a New Year's Resolution statement for each letter, by creating a sentence using each beginning letter for each resolution. By the way, she often would do the same for Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas at other holiday events that LaVerne has hosted over the years. A mother's tradition of New Year's Resolutions and Holiday cheer... one of the many Tucker family traditions celebrated over the years.

Making New Year's Resolutions is healthy, whether one is either formal or informal about it. We encourage you to make your own New Year's Resolutions for 2009. We invite you to make a part of your New Year Resolutions.

We want to thank our customers and clients for their business in 2008 and for those who have been part of our business over the past 50 years. In 2008, we celebrated our 50Th anniversary of service to our community and others throughout the State of Iowa.

In 2009, we look forward to opportunity to serve you or someone you know. Feel free to contact us for a free consultation or meeting to discuss our services.

On behalf of everyone at Tommy Tucker Realty Co. and Professional Management Associates Co., our property management division; we wish you and those close to you, a Happy New Year and the very best in the coming year.

Respectfully submitted by Robin Tucker.

Look for the Realtor Float in this year's Parade

The National Association of Realtors are excited to participate in the 2009 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California on January 1, 2009.

Tommy and LaVerne Tucker have had the pleasure to attend three Rose Bowl parades, while Robin Tucker has enjoyed two. With the new BCS bowl line up, the University of Iowa missed out in 2003. We settled for the Orange Bowl, instead. Tommy and Robin are member of the National Association of Realtors.

The University of Iowa will play in the Outback Bowl this year, which is also played on January 1, 2009.
