Shannon Ramsey quized Rotarians, members of the Rotary Club of Cedar Rapids, on many Tree, Forest and State of Iowa trivia.
For example, 20% of the State of Iowa was originally Forests. Many have heard that 100% of Iowa was prairie land, but actually it would appear to be more like 80% was originally prairie land.
The State Tree of Iowa is the Oak.
How much do trees increaase property values of residential homes? $10,000 was mentioned and Shannon Ramsey suggested it could be higher.
What is the economic value of a large Oak over its lifetime? $85,000 was mentioned.
